Ciociara (Alberto Moravia)

Ciociara

Ciociaria, the name given to some poor areas southeast of Rome, is also the name of a novel by Alberto Moravia, an Italian writer and journalist, who died in 1990.

A woman - Cesira - marries and moves to the outskirts of Rome. World War II arises, and with it famine. Already a widow, she decides to go to the countryside with her daughter, looking for her parents and safety. A countless number of events are part of the plot, everything is falling apart while they wait for the Allies and for the good weather. “We are at war... I will be what I really am when peace returns... for now, I let myself go with the flow”, says Cesira!

Ciociaria is a well-written book, which makes us want to know the author and go on to read more.
